Terms of Service

Please read these terms carefully before using our services

Welcome to ABAIR, a project of the Phonetics and Speech Laboratory at Trinity College Dublin. By accessing or using our website, tools, or services (collectively, the "Services"), you agree to comply with and be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). Please read them carefully. If you do not agree, you may not use the Services.

1. About ABAIR

ABAIR provides speech technology tools for the Irish language, including but not limited to:

  • Text-to-Speech (speech synthesis)
  • Speech Recognition (speech-to-text)
  • Speech-to-Speech conversational features
  • Educational platforms and resources
  • Accessibility and assistive technology tools
  • Professional tools such as subtitle generation

Our mission is to support Irish language learning, accessibility, and preservation through cutting-edge technology.

2. Eligibility

By using the Services, you confirm that you are:

  • At least 16 years of age (or have parental/guardian consent if younger); and
  • Legally permitted to use the Services in your country of residence.

3. Use of Services

You may use the Services only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to:

  • Misuse or interfere with the Services (including attempting to bypass technical protections or limits).
  • Upload, input, or transmit unlawful, offensive, or infringing content.
  • Use the Services for commercial purposes without prior written consent.

ABAIR reserves the right to suspend or terminate access if these Terms are violated.

4. Intellectual Property

  • All technology, content, design, and materials provided through ABAIR are owned by Trinity College Dublin or its licensors.
  • You may use generated audio, text, or other outputs for personal, educational, or non-commercial purposes, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
  • You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse-engineer any part of the Services without explicit permission.

5. Voice Data and Contributions

Some Services allow users to contribute voice recordings or other data to improve the technology. By submitting contributions, you grant ABAIR a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, store, and process your contributions for research, development, and improvement of speech technology.

ABAIR will handle contributions in accordance with its Privacy Policy.

6. Privacy

Your use of the Services is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and protect personal data. By using the Services, you consent to such practices.

7. Disclaimers

  • The Services are provided for educational, research, and accessibility purposes.
  • While we strive for accuracy, outputs (including speech synthesis and recognition) may not always be error-free.
  • The Services are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • ABAIR, Trinity College Dublin, and project collaborators are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from your use of the Services.
  • Your sole remedy for dissatisfaction with the Services is to stop using them.

9. Third-Party Content and Links

The Services may include links to third-party websites or resources. ABAIR is not responsible for the content, accuracy, or practices of these third parties.

10. Changes to Services and Terms
